Inexpensive Fort Worth Activities to Add to Your Itinerary

Planning a group trip to Fort Worth? Cowtown has a lot to offer visitors, from rodeos and cattle drives to fine dining and world-renowned museums. These activities can get pricey, though, especially if you’re traveling with a big group. To get the most value out of your trip, we’ve compiled a few tips for keeping costs low while maximizing fun. And we also offer affordable Fort Worth bus rentals you can easily book!

Don’t Sweat the Transportation Costs

If you’re coming from Dallas, the trek to Fort Worth is only about 30 miles. You can make the journey in just under 40 minutes during non-peak travel times. But if you’re traveling during rush hour, you may want to consider an alternative to driving personal vehicles.

With so many people making their way to Fort Worth every year for the Stockyards, events at Dickies Arena, and the city’s vibrant nightlife scene, traffic congestion during peak hours is nearly unavoidable. That’s why Partybus.com provides bus rental services throughout the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

If your group is coming from out-of-state, there are multiple airports within reasonable driving distance. From the Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW), it’s a 30-minute drive to Fort Worth. Dallas Love Field Airport is another option, and is located within 35 miles of Fort Worth. Rather than renting multiple cars for a big group, charter a bus and keep everyone together in a comfy, climate-controlled motorcoach or minibus.

Find Free & Affordable Activities

To make your Fort Worth trip even more cost-effective, add a few free attractions to your itinerary. During your time at the Stockyards, watch the Fort Worth Herd, the world’s only twice-daily cattle drive. Along Exchange Avenue, check out the bronze Quanah Parker Statue located outside the Stockyards Visitor Center. Continue the historic journey by visiting the Stockyards Museum for free. The museum is in the historic Livestock Exchange Building, also known as “The Wall Street of the West”, which gives you even more opportunities to enjoy free and fascinating history.

Fort Worth’s art museums are a unique blend of cultural significance, stunning architecture and historic pieces from renowned masters. Luckily, three of the museums in the Cultural District are always free. The Amon Carter Museum of American Art is home to a wonderful collection of American art and photography. Designed by architect Philip Johnson, the museum is a work of art itself, especially at night.

The Kimbell Art Museum includes work by Michelangelo, Caravaggio, Monet, Picasso, and more in their permanent collection. The main building was designed by Louis I. Kahn and a separate pavilion was added in 2013 designed by famed Italian architect Renzo Piano. The Kimbell is lauded for its beautiful use of natural light, vaulted ceilings, and travertine marble.

The Sid Richardson Museum, located in Sundance Square, is dedicated to the art of Frederic Remington and Charles M. Russell. Take your group on a journey into the 19th Century American West through stunning artwork.

Take a Walk On the Wild Side

From scenic trails along the Trinity River to panoramic views of the Fort Worth skyline, the city is brimming with outdoor experiences. Explore 100+ miles of walking and biking trails in the Trinity Trails System, which connects dozens of neighborhoods and parks throughout Fort Worth. The trails are dog and family-friendly, offering endless opportunities for a day out in nature.

Another Fort Worth favorite is the Fort Worth Nature Center & Refuge. Stretching across 3,600 acres of undeveloped prairie, this nature preserve is home to deer, bison, armadillo, and prairie dogs, making it a wildlife experience like none other in the area. Hike a few of the center’s 20 miles of trails or reserve a free spot for camping, fishing, or kayaking. If you’re feeling a bit more ambitious, book a private guided tour for an immersive experience with the center’s unique ecosystems.
